Tom’s Tasty BBQ Tip: Don’t Overcook Your Pork
When folks stop by our shop for our Saturday BBQ feasts, a popular question is how we keep our pork so juicy. While some of that might come from our BBQ sauce, a big problem is that folks overcook their pork – it gets too done.
Look, the trichinosis scare is pretty much done. Hogs are no longer eating garbage, they get feed protein-rich foods. We don’t have to cook pork up to 180 degrees anymore. Get it to 140 degrees and you’ll find your pork is tender and juicy.
The great taste comes from our BBQ sauce. Hope to see you some Saturday soon.
Multi-Stack vs. Conventional Seed: Worth The Investment?
Tim Schneider was out in the field talking to our farmers this week and the conversation centered around the multi-stack seeds and how they’re comparing to conventional seeds this year.
After a lot of conversation and some surprising yield tests, we’ve found that a large percentage of the conventional seeds are outperforming the more costly (multi-stack) products.
Here’s a call-in audio post from Tim talking about what we’ve found.

Neglecting Maintenance Can Be Expensive
The Southeast FarmPress site shares information from a recent Purdue study on how neglecting machinery hoses (or choosing the wrong ones) can lead to expensive repairs – and possibly even replacement.
It’s one of the things we see much too often here at Eischen. We always recommend (and assist) in repairs and maintenance — with an emphasis on preventative maintenance.
Here’s a link to the article and you can download the full Purdue report for just one dollar.
Prepare for Fall: Pesky Pests in the Field
We have folks asking about their drain beds a lot this season, and right now is a good time to pay attention to those as we enter harvest time, folks are stopping by to get some Malathion to help prevent little critters from coming in and eating the corn you have stored.
Some other pesky pest news:
